Africa Sans Haine: DRC-Rwanda-Great Lakes Situation Report
This is the first edition of the INACH global pulse brief series that gives an overview from the members of our network about regional hate speech and disinformation trends.
The situation in the Great Lakes region is marked by the war raging in eastern DRC. This war pits the DRC Armed Forces (FARDC) against the rebels of the M23-AFC coalition, supported by neighbouring Rwanda. Since the beginning of the year, this was has already left more than 3,000 dead and thousands displaced in the provinces of North and South Kivu in eastern DRC.
The government is trying to control the narrative about the war, to the detriment of diverse information. As a result, information verified and published by independent sources is often frowned upon when it is unfavourable to the government or the rebels.
